Registration for the Gurbani competition has now closed.
Rules and Regulations
- The competition will commence from the week commencing 29th July 2024.
- The deadline date for registration will be Friday 26th July 2024.
- Participants must be aged 6-18 years of age. Age will be taken into consideration when judging.
- This competition is open to all and you do not need to be registered as a camper.
- Each participant must select which category they want to compete in. Participants are only allowed to select one category each.
- In each category, you must select which Bani you want to recite. You can select one and up to all 4. If you select all 4, only then you can win one of the Grand Prizes listed below.
- Pronunciation and Uchaaran (pronunciation and enunciation) of each Bani will be evaluated and graded, as well as how well you have memorised them, without any assistance.
- You are not allowed to use any memory aid while reciting each of the Bania you have selected.
- If you make a mistake, you are allowed to repeat the Pauri again or start the Bani again if you wish to. You may get penalised in the scoring for repeated mistakes while reciting.
- The competition recitations will take place at the end of the day after the Khalsa Camp Slough has finished for the day at 3:30pm onwards. Participants will be heard in the order of who entered on a first come first serve basis. There will be numerous judges to listen to different children at one time.
- You will be sent an email about which day during the camp week you are going to be given to take part in the competition. Please make sure you stay after the Camp for that particular day linked to the category you have entered for.
- Winners will be announced in the Final Divan on Thursday 1st August. Prizes will be awarded at Singh Sabha Gurdwara on Sunday 4th August from 12:00-2:00pm.
- As there is a limited number of prizes, the grand prizes will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, based on who is chosen as the winner first in each category.
- Children will be asked to recite the Bani they have chosen from different places. The judges will recite a line and the child will have to recite the rest of the Bani from that line. Children will not necessarily have to recite the whole Bani they have chosen to recite due to the time it will take to hear everyone.
